If you are reading this, then I imagine that you’re going through a difficult time, whether that’s caused by a past issue, or something more current. Perhaps you’re looking for some help to change direction in your life, or you would like to understand yourself better. It takes courage to take the step into counselling and self-exploration, but you don’t need to do it alone - I can help you.
My name is Lauren Carter, and I am an experienced professional counsellor and psychotherapist working in private practice within Reading, Woking, and Oxford.
I have worked as a counsellor since 2010, both in various community and private organisations in the U.K. and in the U.S., providing counselling to individuals, groups, couples, and families. For the past five years, I have worked as a counsellor at a nationally renowned private addiction treatment centre in the South East of England. I am an Accredited National Counsellor with the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP), as well as a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to the BACP and FDAP Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Framework. I attend regular supervision and hold professional indemnity insurance.
I strive to create a safe, kind, and compassionate space where we can explore together your unique experience. I will support you as you explore your thoughts, feeling, actions, and beliefs, making small changes for yourself, moving from a place of unhappiness and difficulty, to living life more fully.
Part of my role is to help you explore why you think and behave in the way you do. With greater awareness comes greater choice, as you can then choose to change what you’re not happy with.
As a person-centred counsellor, I adapt to the needs of the individual whether exploring the past or present challenges, or understanding the meaning of your experience. The counselling session belongs to you. I won’t direct or advise you, but I will facilitate your own insight and support you as you make the choices to change.
My skills include one-to-one counselling, group therapy, couples and family counselling. Through my career as a counsellor, I’ve gained extensive knowledge in treating issues such as:
Loss and Bereavement
Work related stress
I have a robust academic background and a passionate commitment to learning and self-development.
I am committed to maintaining professional excellence, and I routinely pursue a range of professional development courses in various specialist areas.
I offer an initial introductory appointment at a reduced rate of £30. This initial 50-minute session will allow us to get to know each other, and explore how counselling could help you. During this session, I will invite you to share about what issue brought you in to seek counselling, and I will explain my methods of work and the confidentiality policy I abide by.
Appointments are usually arranged on a weekly basis, which we can discuss and plan together when we meet.
Individual sessions cost £50, and each session lasts for 50 minutes.
Ready to make an appointment? Still have some questions?
You are more than welcome to contact me for an initial chat on 07950 608 814, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If I am with a client my phone will be switched off but please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Counselling and Psychotherapy do share many common characteristics, but are distinct ways of working. Counselling is generally shorter term work which usually focuses on specific issues or difficulties. Psychotherapy usually involves more in depth work than counselling as it may explore more fully aspects of ourselves, patterns in the way we relate to ourselves and others, and the links between past events and current experience.
I am trained as a person-centred counsellor. What this means is that I work with you, to develop the best understanding of your own unique experience. I work collaboratively with my clients, exploring together with you the complex layers of your thoughts, feelings, and actions, ultimately helping you arrive at a place of deeper self-awareness and a knowledge of the inner resources available to you to make the necessary changes in your life. I don’t advise, but support you in this process of self-development and change, by encouraging deep self-reflection. I do work integratively with other therapeutic techniques, incorporating aspects of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
I see adults with issues such as:
